HD voice

Calls sound fuller and clearer whenever both ends support HD voice. It's automatic, with nothing to switch on.

HD voice carries more of the sound of a voice than an ordinary phone call. Voices sound fuller and clearer.

When you get it

HD voice is automatic. A call uses it when at least two people on the call are on devices that support it:

  • the phone in your browser;
  • the Windows desktop app;
  • supported desk phones.

A call between two coworkers in the browser or the desktop app, for example, is in HD.

Calls to and from ordinary phone numbers, like a customer's cell or landline, travel over the regular phone network. That part of the call sounds like a normal phone call.

Nothing to set up

There's no setting to turn on. Desk phones pick up their HD voice settings when they restart or next check for new settings.

Getting the best sound

  • Use a headset, ideally a wired USB one. See Headsets and sound.
  • Bluetooth headsets often drop to lower quality while the microphone is on. That's a limit of Bluetooth, not of the call.
  • A steady internet connection matters more than a fast one. Use a cable if your Wi-Fi is busy.
