The Windows desktop app

Install the Hey Quad app for Windows so calls ring even with your browser closed. Sign in, updates, and using it with a desk phone.

The Hey Quad desktop app is the same phone as the one in your browser, in its own window. Its big advantage: it keeps ringing when your browser is closed.

It runs on Windows.

Install it

  1. Go to the downloads page and click Download for Windows.
  2. Run the installer. It installs for your Windows user. You don't need to be an administrator.
  3. Windows shows the publisher's name when you run it, because the installer is signed.

Sign in with the same email and password you use in the browser.

  • If your account uses two-step verification, enter the 6-digit code from your authenticator app.
  • Tick Trust this computer for 30 days to skip the code on this computer for a while.
  • To use a passkey, click Sign in with a passkey. Your browser opens to finish signing in, and the app carries on by itself.

If you belong to more than one organization, you can switch between them from the app's menu.

Using the app

Everything works the same as in the browser: the Keypad, Recents, Contacts, Messages and Voicemail tabs, your status, hold, transfer and consult. See Make and take calls in your browser.

A few things are special to the desktop app:

  • Closing the window doesn't quit the app. It keeps running in the system tray (by the clock) so calls still ring. Click the tray icon to bring the window back. To quit, right-click the tray icon and pick Quit.
  • Ctrl+Shift+Space brings the app to the front from anywhere.
  • Phone-number links can open in the app. When you click a phone number link on a web page, Windows may ask which app to use. Pick Hey Quad and the app dials the number.

The desktop app is its own device on your extension, so it rings alongside your other devices. See Extensions and devices to change the ring order.

Use it with your desk phone

If you have a desk phone, the app can control the desk phone's calls instead of using your computer's microphone.

  1. Open the app's menu, then Settings.
  2. Under Take calls on, turn on My desk phone.

Now your desk phone rings and carries the sound, and the app shows who is calling and gives you the controls. Turn it off to use your computer as the phone again.

Move a call between devices

If you're on a call on another of your devices, the app shows a banner instead of call controls. Click Switch call here to bring the call to your computer. With My desk phone on, the button is Move to desk phone: your desk phone rings, and the call moves when you pick it up.

See Transfer and consult.

Updates

The app updates itself.

  • When an update is ready, a thin strip at the top of the window says so. Click Restart to update when it suits you.
  • Sometimes we recommend an update. Click Update, or Later to be reminded another time.
  • If an update is required, the app waits until your call ends, then asks you to update.

To check by hand, open Settings, then App updates, then Check for updates.
