Forward your existing number
Keep your current phone service and forward its calls to Hey Quad, either the calls you miss or all of them.
You don't have to move your phone number to use Hey Quad. Your current carrier can forward calls to a Hey Quad number. Your existing service, phones and bill stay as they are.
The Hey Quad number answers forwarded calls the same way it answers any call: your AI receptionist, a person's extension, a queue or a call flow. Whatever the number is routed to on the Phone numbers page is what callers get.
Want the number itself to live with Hey Quad? See Port your number in. You can forward now and port later.
Before you start
You need a Hey Quad number to forward to. If you don't have one, buy one first.
Then open Phone numbers and click Connect an existing number. The window shows:
- the Hey Quad number to forward to, with a Copy number button (pick a different number from the list if you have more than one);
- the two ways to forward;
- dialing codes for common carriers;
- a live test.
Pick how much to forward
- Catch the calls you miss (conditional forwarding). Your phone rings first, like today. Only calls you don't answer, or that come in while you're busy, go to Hey Quad.
- Forward all calls. Every call goes straight to Hey Quad.
Using forward-all with the AI receptionist? Make sure its transfer number is a different phone, like your cell. With forward-all on, a transfer back to your business line forwards right back to the AI. Conditional forwarding doesn't have this problem.
Turn forwarding on
Dial these codes from the line you're forwarding. Replace <number> with your Hey Quad number. Codes can vary by carrier and plan. If one doesn't work, check your carrier's support page or call them.

Test it
- In the same window, click Start test.
- Call your business number from a different phone. If you set up conditional forwarding, let it ring until it forwards.
- The window watches for the call. When it arrives, it says so and shows the caller's number.
Click Run another test to try again, or Cancel test to stop.
What callers and your reports see
- Callers notice nothing. They dial the number they always have.
- Caller ID is kept. Your call history shows the real caller's number, not your forwarding line.
- The test shows the forwarding line, when your carrier sends that information. Most do. If your carrier doesn't send it, the call still works.
Common problems
- Testing from the forwarding phone. Many carriers won't forward a call you place from the same line. Use a different phone.
- Your old voicemail picks up first. With conditional forwarding, the carrier's no-answer timer has to be shorter than your voicemail. Ask your carrier to adjust it.
- Forwarding fees. Some landline plans charge per minute for forwarded calls. Check with your carrier.
- Texts, outgoing calls and 911 stay with your carrier. Forwarding only moves incoming calls.
